It is not a far reach to say that a child’s success in life depends on the ability to communicate well. This starts with basic skills like understanding routines and changes in routines and following directions, as well as eventually playing with friends, meeting new people—not to mention doing well in school! Communication problems take many forms. Breakdowns can occur at many points along the path of development. These breakdowns do not have to overshadow the potential every child has.
